Weltevreden Park Library builds sense of community

Weltevreden Park Library and A Milner Realty recently organised a tea and inspiration session with Andeline Singh, the co-founder of Supporting Those In Need Together (STINT), a Weltevreden Park-based non-profit organisation. STINT was established following the devastation of Covid-19 to help those in need with food packages and to host career days to empower the youth with knowledge. STINT’s mission is to stand with the community and care for the vulnerable.

Co-founders Singh and Tony da Silva have built an organisation that touches the lives of hundreds of recipients through a strong sense of community and a wealth of industry knowledge.

Singh, who spoke to community members at Weltevreden Park Library, is a family woman that wears many hats. She is also head of skills planning and head of research. She has since dedicated herself to volunteering and believes that no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever forgotten.

She shared her life, passions, and the influence she aims to have on people during the tea and inspiration session. Growing up in a home that prioritises family and community, she expressed gratitude for always having people around her who were eager to support and encourage her. These ingrained values encouraged her to pursue volunteering with various churches, which subsequently encouraged her to establish STINT.

“With escalating inflation, the need for help and support is growing, and it is especially affecting people with low to no income in our society,” said Singh.

“We started this initiative to support the elderly and provide guidance and assistance to young people who are unsure of what career they want to pursue, I know that if I can assist young people in choosing the right career path by offering knowledge and resources, they will be able to support their families, and that will spark a domino effect.”

In partnership with STINT, the Weltevreden Park Library is currently running a thanksgiving outreach drive.

Gwyneth Perry, the Senior Librarian at Weltevreden Park Library, expressed her delight at the opportunity to collaborate with STINT, adding: “We hope to continue being a hub in the community where we can work to make a difference in the lives of our people through books, study space, Wi-Fi, and through initiatives like our thanksgiving outreach drive with STINT.”

“At the end of the day, all that counts is changing lives one day at a time.”
