Jaedon Terlouw and Kim Le Court were crowned champions of the 28th annual 947 Ride Joburg cycle challenge, concluding a spectacular metropolitan event that saw tens of thousands of cyclists own the streets of Johannesburg.

The two riders clinched the Elite titles after successfully navigating the challenging 97km road race, which used the City’s world-class road infrastructure.

The high-stakes race culminated in a fierce finish at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, with both elite categories delivering tightly contested times:

Executive Mayor, Councillor Dada Morero, hailed the event’s success, asserting that the participation of thousands of cyclists demonstrated the municipality’s capacity to host events of international magnitude.

“The sheer number of participants is testament to the world-class stature of Johannesburg’s cycling infrastructure,” Mayor Morero stated. “This event actively highlighted the importance of non-motorised mobility, prioritising a healthy, eco-friendly lifestyle, a key pillar of our municipal agenda.”

The Mayor extended his congratulations to every participant, particularly those visiting the City, adding: “We successfully hosted this event as a World Class African City, and we look forward to welcoming you to more future events.”

The 97km route, a challenging, clockwise metropolitan loop featuring a cumulative elevation gain of 1,280 metres, was designed as a high-impact tour of Joburg’s key economic and residential hubs.

It strategically linked the Southern Basin with the Northern Economic Arc via major City freeways. Cyclists navigated major infrastructure, including the M1 highway, experienced the thrill of racing the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, and crossed the symbolic Nelson Mandela Bridge, a powerful visual link between the north and the City core, before concluding their arduous journey at the FNB Stadium.
