Telkom Netball League heats up in Johannesburg with strong partnerships

The Telkom Netball League (TNL) is in full swing in Johannesburg, bringing together a powerhouse of partners to fuel a season packed with exhilarating matches. Backed by the City of Johannesburg and a team of dedicated sponsors, the league is propelling netball development across South Africa and igniting the passion in young players.

Underscoring the city’s dedication to empowering women sports, Siyanda Mnukwa, the Director of Sport and Recreation for the City of Joburg, highlighted their multifaceted approach to supporting the TNL. Joburg is going beyond simply providing venues and essential services, with a strong focus on community engagement. “We’re committed to fostering a culture of sportsmanship and inclusivity, especially among our youth,” Mnukwa said.

In collaboration with local schools and clubs, the city is fostering a vibrant spectating experience, encouraging participation from netball enthusiasts across all ages and backgrounds. This collaborative effort not only elevates the event experience but also reinforces Joburg’s commitment to nurturing talent and empowering communities through the power of sport.

Mnukwa further emphasised that the TNL presents a pivotal opportunity to advance gender equity in sports. By shining a spotlight on women’s athletics and facilitating access for spectators, the City aims to inspire the next generation of female athletes.

The Telkom Netball League boasts an impressive roster of partners, including the Departments of Sports, Arts and Culture (national and provincial), Telkom, Spar, Energade, Discovery, Puma, SuperSport, Renault, Hollywoodbets, Southern Sun, the National Lotteries Commission, SASCOC, and Gilbert Netball. These partners are united in their commitment to propelling netball forward and providing opportunities for talented athletes.

Telkom has been a pillar of support for the past five years, demonstrating unwavering dedication to nurturing netball talent. Gugu Mthembu, Telkom’s Chief Marketing Officer, emphasised its commitment to empowering young athletes to showcase their skills and inspire others.

Renault is also a proud partner, aligning its values with the TNL’s focus on diversity and inclusivity. Sithabile Maphumulo, Vice President for Marketing and Communications at Renault SA, said its partnership with the Telkom Netball League allowed it to actively support women’s? sports in South Africa.

The league kicked off with Power Week 1, which ran from 26 April to 5 May 2024. Power Week 2 follows from 31 May to 5 June, and Power Week 3 takes place from 13-19 June. All matches are held at Ellis Park Arena and feature 16 competitive teams vying for the championship title.
