Swiss star Chiara Tamburlini has seized control of the Joburg Ladies Open, leading by a commanding six strokes heading into the final round. This exhilarating co-sanctioned Sunshine Ladies Tour and Ladies European Tour event is taking place at Modderfontein Golf Club, east of Johannesburg. Tamburlini, who began Saturday’s play just one shot behind South Africa’s Nadia van der Westhuizen, displayed her prowess with a flawless six-under-par 67. This propelled her to the top of the leaderboard at an impressive 14 under par. Thailand’s Aunchisa Utama sits closest to Tamburlini on the leaderboard, trailing by six strokes at eight under par after a solid third-round 71. Meanwhile, Spain’s Luna Sobron Galmes and Tereza Melecka of the Czech Republic share third place at seven under par, setting the stage for a thrilling final day.

Despite being a relative newcomer, turning professional only last August, Tamburlini has already made a name for herself with two victories on the LET Access Tour. 

Her composed performance on Saturday showcased her ability to handle pressure, navigating the challenges of Modderfontein Golf Club with poise.

Elated by her position, Tamburlini said it felt incredible. “I played very solidly from start to finish, and I’m truly excited to enter the final round with a six-shot lead.”

Her familiarity with the course layout, coupled with favourable pin placements, has given Tamburlini an edge. However, she remains cautious, acknowledging that complacency could jeopardise her lead.

Aware of the potential for a dramatic shift on Sunday, Tamburlini says she’ll stay focused on her strategy. “The key for me is to keep pushing myself. I’ll set personal goals to ensure I maintain the pressure and go low again on the final day.”

As Tamburlini sets her sights on claiming her maiden Sunshine Ladies Tour and Ladies European Tour titles, her unwavering determination promises a captivating conclusion to this already enthralling tournament.
