Sport and Recreation helping residents work on summer bodies

Calories were shed at Johannesburg Girls Preparatory School as Sport and Recreation in Region F hosted an aerobics session as part of the healthy lifestyle programme launched citywide. Anyone can develop healthy habits, all that’s needed is to know how to do it properly. Getting and maintaining good health does not have to be tough.

Sport and Recreation showed on Saturday, 8 October 2022, that starting small and implementing good adjustments in your everyday routine may help establish a healthy lifestyle.

Participants of all ages were welcome. Group instructors volunteered their talents to keep the programme functioning and residents leading healthy lives.

“You learn so much about yourself as a fitness enthusiast, and exercises impart significant life lessons,” said Kagiso Mhlongo, one of the participants.

“Life is incredibly important, and living a healthy life is even more priceless, a healthy lifestyle begins with a deliberate decision, which leads to little adjustments and building habits such as eating healthier and being active,” he said.

During aerobic activity, one’s breathing, and heart rate will increase. Aerobic exercise benefits the heart, lungs and circulatory system.

Asked about some of the advantages of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, one of the project managers, Neo Radebe, said: “One of the advantages of healthy living is positive thinking and pleasure with seeing results since exercise produces ‘happy hormones’ such as dopamine and serotonin.

“Having a defined physical routine creates structure in your life and affects your way of thinking, which leads to mental and physical advantages, it also fosters discipline, which may subsequently be applied to other parts of your life,” he added.
