All roads lead to the Joburg Market on Thursday, 27 October 2022. The market will stage an Emerging Farmers’ workshop on the day to encourage more players in the multi-billion rand agricultural sector.
“A lot of small and emerging farmers are not aware of the exciting opportunities the Joburg Market offers. These key workshops go a long way towards raising awareness and creating inclusivity in the sector.
“The workshop has been oversubscribed, which is a nice problem to have and goes to show the level of interest out there. We’re looking forward to hosting a successful workshop and encouraging more business in our field,” said Solomon Mphakhathi, the Joburg Market’s Acting CEO.
Small-scale and emerging farmers with will be provided with information during an interactive session on key things such as market access, skills in agri-business; challenges in accessing land; finance and awareness of the agricultural sector opportunities.
This workshop is free of charge and proceedings kick off at 08:00 and end at 15:00. Various stakeholders such as the Institute of Market Agents of South Africa and the Department of Economic Development will share their knowledge and experiences in the best way possible.
The workshop will also be an opportunity to provide access to the JM trading system and transformation, which will aid transformation and empower Black Small Scale Farmers and BEE Market Agents.
“Joburg Market has become known for building a smart fresh produce trading hub that is globally competitive and building a trading complex that capitalises on the growth of the city’s economy through an inclusive business environment. If you are a farmer and keen to learn valuable skills from the best, then the workshop is the place to be this Thursday,” said Mphakhathi.
