SA players fly flag on second day of Joburg Ladies Open

South African professional golfers were flying the nations flag high on day two of the Joburg Ladies Open. The four-day tournament teed off on Thursday, 18 April 2024, on the lush lawns of Modderfontein Golf Course in the east of Johannesburg. Golfers from across the world are competing for their share of the €300,000 prize purse and to make the cut to round three.

On Friday, 19 April 2024, from around 12:00 South African pro, Nadia van der Westhuizen, was the leading player on the scoreboard.

On day two she hit seven birdies and scored five under par. “I’m very happy with my game today, it was a bit of a struggle in the beginning, but I’m happy. I’m riding the momentum,” she said after her game. She added that she it is exciting to be back at the Joburg Ladies Open. “It’s a privilege to play here and the golf course is amazing.”

An interesting fact she shared about her game is that she always has a red line on her ball and keep a plastic tee in her pocket.

Nicole Garcia also performed well on day two. She scored four birdies and scored one under par.

“My score is not as low as it could be, which is a good sign, but also frustrating at the same time so. Hopefully tomorrow I can stop the mistakes and just keep the birdies on the card,” she said after her second round.

She added that she has never missed a Joburg Ladies Open since 2016 and it is exciting to be back. “I don’t think I’ve missed a single Joburg Ladies Open. It’s nice to see the progression of the tournament. It’s a great course.”

Other South Africans who were performing in the projected cut were Cassandra Alexander, Lee-Anne Pace, Brittney-Fay Berger, Danielle du Toit and Isabella van Rooyen.
