Region A enters spring with aerobics at Kaalfontein Primary School

Kaalfontein Primary School came alive as it hosted a community aerobics session, where fitness and fun took centre stage on Saturday, 06 September. The event was organised by the City of Johannesburg’s Sport and Recreation (Region A) to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage residents to embrace physical activity.

The calorie-burning session, which ran from 7am to 9am, attracted people of all ages. Local aerobics clubs collaborated with Region A to deliver the lively programme that had participants dancing, stretching, and sweating their way into spring.

“The Healthy Lifestyle programme continues to be a big success, and all credit goes to the Region A Sport and Recreation team for always delivering the programme in such a professional and well-coordinated manner,” said Mandla Mahlangu, Assistant Director for Sport and Recreation in Region A.

Mahlangu explained that aerobics serves many purposes for the community. “Some do it as a hobby, while others participate to achieve body goals. Most importantly, aerobics encourages people to live healthier, more active lives. It also plays a role in keeping the youth off the streets and away from drugs,” he said.

He added that the benefits go far beyond fitness. “Aerobics is one of the best things you can do for your body; it improves your heart health, strengthens your bones, helps you sleep better, and even adds years to your life. It’s simple, fun, and it really changes lives,” Mahlangu said.

“As a netball player, aerobics helps me build stamina and stay fit for the game. Today’s session not only boosted my fitness but also improved my confidence and teamwork skills. It keeps us active, focused, and away from negative influences in our community,” said 17-year-old Belinda Khumalo.

As the community stepped into spring with vibrant energy, the aerobics session at Kaalfontein Primary reminded residents that staying active is key to a healthier and more positive lifestyle.
