From jumps, splits to high kicks, the greatest moves in Region A were on display at Noordwyk Park on Saturday, 10 September 2022, as Sport and Recreation presented a free sweat-inducing aerobics class to the public. Getting up early in the morning can be a challenge, but there are plenty of good reasons to do it.
For one, it’s a fantastic way to get some exercise. Locals in Region A attested to the fact that it’s an excellent way to start the day and that the calorie-burning exercise can help to enhance general fitness.
Residents enjoyed the two-hour calorie-burning session, which was complemented by cheerful music. Coach Mervis Mkhize led the group as early as 7am while the sun shone brilliantly and birds chirped soothing melodies.
“Everyone, regardless of age, gender, or physical ability, can benefit from becoming more active,” said Mkhize, the founder of Trimax Fitness Club.
There is evidence that regular physical exercise may lead to a more effective immune response, giving greater protective immunity against acquiring chronic illnesses. “It is therefore essential that we begin at the grassroots and encourage our youngsters to live healthy lifestyles because when someone is physically fit, they feel better and stay healthier; additionally, the earlier a child begins getting in shape, the lower their risk of numerous illnesses,” Mkhize added.
The programme is a component of the healthy lifestyle living that the City of Johannesburg has put into place across the entire city. Emmanuel Mboweni, City’s Sport and Recreation Operational Manager for Region A, said: “This is an engaging platform that keeps citizens of all ages busy so that they don’t engage in harmful behaviour like drug and substance abuse. Aerobics is by far among the most essential approaches for living a longer and healthier life. It is never too late to start living a healthier lifestyle.”
Lehlogonolo Mothwa, 43, from Allandale, who was one of the participants, expressed her satisfaction with the session afterward, saying: “I feel rejuvenated and a sense of accomplishment. I feel like I have more energy than I had before and my blood is definitely pumping. It’s a lovely sensation, albeit a little intense, but no one has ever regretted a workout.”
