MOYA promises spiritual healing for suffering masses

MOYA, which is a show on spirituality and healing directed by prolific artistic director and choreographer Gregory Maqoma will be staged at the Mandela Stage, Joburg Theatre, from 3 to 5 March 2023. The three nights feature songstress Simphiwe Dana and it will certainly be a perfect opportunity for theatregoers to explore a mystical journey with different segments of acapella music conducted by the jazz sensation and maestro Titi Luzipho.

Dana has stunned many across the globe with her powerful and soulful voice. She strives to stimulate conversations that address awareness to the socio-economic challenges faced in communities across South Africa, Africa and the rest of the world.

“MOYA is more than just a show. It’s a conduit to unpacking our collective trauma from our experience during the Covid years and beyond,” says Maqoma.

The soul-healing show is back with elements that compel one to embrace and accept trauma and be encouraged to let it go. Tickets range from R350 to R550.

“Joining forces with well-known choreographers and dynamic dancers of Vuyani Dance Theatre was a way of showcasing an interaction of the arts,” says Dana.

“This is something I have always aspired to. With both my symphonies I had this approach. I have collaborated for many years with Greg and the Vuyani Dance Company and the same goes for Titi.

“This is a great opportunity for one to open themselves to spiritual healing for those who have suffered, particularly who suffered losses during the Covid years, have not allowed themselves to come to terms with the magnitude of our losses,” says Dana.
