Lindo Wins Big With Innovative App Idea

Rosebank Library’s Lindo Dlamini (27) is making waves with his forward-thinking approach to library resource management. Lindo, a passionate advocate for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), recently teamed up with colleague Lindani Sikhakhane (Randburg Library) to develop a groundbreaking resource-sharing app. This innovative idea not only earned Lindo recognition at the City’s Innovation Awards (Winning Solution and New Ideas category) but has the potential to revolutionise library operations across the City.
Lindo and Lindani introduced an intelligence resource management app. The app is aimed at helping libraries and other relevant departments track the available information and communication technology (ICT) tools like laptops, tablets, and other items in various branches and be able to share these for different programmes. The app also assists in sharing resources in cases where they are not enough.
Lindo is grateful for the recognition. “I felt immense joy when receiving the award, as it ignited a strong drive within me to pursue excellence in Johannesburg. This recognition serves as a constant reminder of my potential and motivates both myself and others to explore innovative approaches,” he says.
He is looking forward to seeing the idea implemented and tested in the City. “The app links with 4IR and can contribute positively to libraries. As times are changing and evolving, everything is becoming technologically inclined and it makes things easier,” he says.
“I would find joy in seeing my idea put into action and tested within the City as it would demonstrate my contribution to urban innovation. Furthermore, I believe that as individuals, we should aim to leave a positive impact wherever we venture,” Lindo adds.
Lindo obtained a Library and Information Science degree from the University of Zululand and also pursued a Master’s degree in Information Science. His research topic was around:
“Assessing records management to support auditing processes”.
When he is not steering new and bright ideas, Lindo enjoys time with his family and watching football.
Lindo encourages other City employees to participate in the innovation challenge as it creates an opportunity to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills.
As a parting shot, he says: “Let your imagination run wild. Think outside the box and don’t be afraid to explore unconventional ideas.”
