JRA’s Operation Restore Tackles Road Safety in Region C

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) recently kicked off Operation Restore in Region C to address road defects in Roodepoort and surrounding areas. The initiative, part of a city-wide effort, was launched on Exner Road, Roodepoort, a location known for multiple road safety issues.

JRA CEO Zweli Nyathi led the programme, supported by Joburg Water, Joburg City Parks and Zoo, Pikitup, and Regional Citizen Relationship teams. The collaboration tackled potholes, stormwater drainage, and road maintenance. Residents saw visible improvements, including road resurfacing and pothole repairs along key routes like Lambert Street and Edward Street.

Nyathi emphasised the importance of cooperation between city entities, stating: “We cannot work in isolation. Operation Restore shows the power of collaboration in addressing old infrastructure issues.”

The project, initiated by MMC for Transport Cllr Kenny Kunene, is designed to address long-standing road maintenance issues by equipping regional teams with extra resources. It aims to fast-track repairs, improve safety, and ensure efficient service delivery in Region C.

Residents, including Steve and Fiona from Little Falls, praised the upgrades, with Steve noting: “This is service delivery at work, and it’s great to see improvements.”

Operation Restore also included pothole repairs in Cosmo City, North Riding, Constantia Kloof, Bramfischerville, and Matholesville, with over 300 potholes fixed across the region. Additionally, JRA conducted road resurfacing along Bridal Veil Crescent in Little Falls.

Efforts to improve road safety were complemented by increased law enforcement and environmental health inspections, with one scrap metal business receiving a closure notice for non-compliance.

With Operation Restore now underway, Region C residents can expect further improvements in road safety and infrastructure maintenance in the coming months.
