JOSHCO Commits to a Future of Dignity and Equality During Human Rights Month

March is a significant month in South Africa as we commemorate Human Rights Month. This is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made in the struggle for democracy and to reaffirm our commitment to upholding the rights enshrined in our Constitution.

The theme for 2025, ‘Three Decades of Respect for and Promotion of Human Rights’, serves as a reminder of the progress made since the dawn of democracy and the ongoing work required to ensure that human rights are fully realised for all.

“As the City of Johannesburg’s agent responsible for providing social housing and affordable rental accommodation, JOSHCO plays a crucial role in advancing human rights by delivering dignified, well-located, and affordable housing to residents in the low-income bracket. Our mandate directly aligns with fundamental human rights, particularly those related to housing, dignity, equality, and socio-economic inclusion,” says acting CEO Nokwazi Mtshali.

As South Africa commemorates Human Rights Month 2025, JOSHCO remains committed to supporting the City’s vision of providing sustainable and dignified housing solutions. Through our ongoing projects and future developments, we will continue to uphold the rights of our residents, ensuring that affordable housing remains a cornerstone of social and economic transformation.

“At JOSHCO, we will use this month as a time of reflection and action—to continue championing human rights, fostering inclusivity, and working towards a more equitable society. JOSHCO stands firm in its mission to be a catalyst for change, ensuring that housing remains a fundamental human right for all citizens,” says Mtshali.
