Johannesburg Women in Business Drive Change and Collaboration in Region C

The success of the Women in Business Seminar in Region C has reaffirmed the power of women to lead with vision, collaboration, and resilience. Hosted at the Roodepoort Civic Centre, the event was a joint initiative of the Department of Economic Development’s Isiqalo Opportunity Centre and the City’s CRUM.

The seminar encouraged women to take charge of shaping the change they want to see, while celebrating progress and fostering partnerships. An inspiring line-up of speakers delivered powerful messages on leadership, innovation, and collaboration.

Trailblazing entrepreneur and guest speaker, Moleboheng Matli, highlighted the transformative role of women in today’s business landscape. “There has been transformation in the sector over the years, systems are changing, there is deliberate commitment from the government and focused intentions to propel women further—and these efforts work better with partnerships,” she said.

Fortunate Khumalo of the Isiqalo Opportunity Centre emphasised the importance of such gatherings: “Sharing of stories in these gatherings allows us to realign our strategies, bring a sense of comfort for those who feel alone in the journey, and redefine the essence of leadership for women.”

The seminar also covered wellness, financial literacy, and business opportunities, with support from stakeholders such as Sanlam, Harmony Gold Mine, and Absa.

Property investor Paballo Mogapi of HOP said her biggest takeaway was the potential for cross-sector collaboration. “As a property investor, I was not aware that I could work with financial institutions for the benefit of my business. My eyes were opened to how things such as insurance are indispensable for the protection of a business,” she noted.
