Johannesburg Gears up for Meetings Africa 2025

Johannesburg is set to reinforce its position as Africa’s leading business tourism destination by hosting the 19th edition of Meetings Africa in 2025. Organised by the South African National Convention Bureau (SANCB) and Joburg Tourism Company (JTC), the event will bring together global and African business event professionals, showcasing the city’s world-class conferencing facilities and networking opportunities.

“Meetings Africa is more than an event; it strengthens Johannesburg’s global reputation as a hub for business, trade, and innovation,” said Thandubuhle Mgudlwa, CEO of Joburg Tourism. “We aim to attract high-profile events while ensuring lasting economic benefits for our communities and small enterprises.”

Johannesburg’s tourism sector continues to thrive, with 3.8 million visitors in 2023 contributing R61.8 billion to the economy, according to S&P Global. The city’s resilience and innovation have made it a top choice for international events, including the G20 and U20 Summits, the World Union of Wholesale Markets Conference, and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry Congress.

Through its MICE Support Programme, Joburg Tourism has successfully hosted major events, such as the 2024 Meetings Africa and the International Society of Paediatric Oncology Congress, generating R199 million in economic impact.

“Our commitment extends beyond events,” added Mgudlwa. “We’re investing in infrastructure, fostering partnerships, and creating opportunities for SMMEs and youth employment to ensure broad economic benefits.”

Meetings Africa 2025 will take place from 24 to 26 February at the Sandton Convention Centre, attracting global stakeholders, including buyers, conference organisers, and tourism boards. Johannesburg invites industry leaders to collaborate in shaping the city as a premier, year-round business events destination.
