As part of its Africa Month celebrations, Joburg Tourism Company hosted a Belgian women in business delegation in partnership with UN Women, the Circle of Global Business Women, the Gauteng Growth & Development Agency (GGDA) and the Charlotte Maxeke African Women’s Economic Justice and Rights Initiative (AWERJ). Using Johannesburg as their base, the 11-member delegation from Belgium will completed an intensive five day itinerary of B2B meetings, site inspections and exposure to the local tourism industry, with the objective of forging solid international business ties between women in business in the two countries.
Starting on Thursday, 25 May, the delegation and associated partners were welcomed to Joburg by Cllr Nomoya Mnisi, the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development at the City of Johannesburg.
“It is so encouraging to see the extent and diversity of the interest in building economic ties between Belgium and Johannesburg in responsible, ethical, fair and sustainable practices in an array of industries and sectors,” says Mnisi.
“The requests for B2B meetings from the delegation is very broad which is truly inspiring and I’m sure this delegation will have many fruitful partnerships forged as a result of this significant initiative.”
B2B Meetings between delegates and potential local business partners in identified niches and sectors was hosted by GGDA on Friday, 26 May.
The itinerary also includes a Joburg Showcase of contemporary, art, culture, history, fashion and artisanal crafts at the Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct on Saturday, 27 May, as well as a full day sightseeing tour of Johannesburg on Sunday, 28 May.
The programme wraps up with a Gala Dinner and visits to both the JSE and the Gauteng Industrial Development Zone [GIDZ].
