Joburg supports Standard Bank women’s Pro-Am

Golf has always been seen as an affluent sport but the Standard Bank Women’s Pro-Am programme is taking it right down to grassroots. This year, Standard Bank’s installment of the series amounts to just over R5 million total prize money of the collective tournaments across South Africa.

The tournaments will be played in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and North West. This initiative will empower, nurture and support female golfers.
The City of Johannesburg’s Acting Executive Mayor, Councillor Ronald Harris, congratulated Standard Bank for empowering and advancing professional women’s golf.
“The City contributes to active living and healthy lifestyle through our sport and recreation department, and it was an absolute pleasure to share the evening with likeminded people,” said Cllr Harris.
“For the short time that we have been in the multi-party coalition, I have come to realise that the City can benefit immensely from partnerships with the private sector. It is important that the public and private sector work together because through partnerships and collaborations, we can improve the delivery of services and uplift our society.
“We hope to develop serious sports partnerships that will benefit our children, sports people and the community at large. Every shot made by the ladies who play in the series is going to develop and enable children in the townships to broaden their vision, expand their horizon as well as see exceptional possibilities. I thank the team from the City of Johannesburg who were there to represent us,” said Cllr Harris.
