Joburg spearheads efforts to foster urban resilience

The City of Johannesburg is taking proactive steps to bolster urban resilience through collaborative partnerships aimed at fortifying city infrastructure and systems. In a joint initiative, the City of Johannesburg will co-host a South African dialogue alongside C40 Cities, the South African Presidential Climate Commission (PCC), and the South African Local Government Association (Salga). The dialogue will bring together representatives from various C40 cities, including Cape Town, eThekwini, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, and Tshwane, along with non-C40 cities committed to the cause.

Focused on “Building City Resilience Through a Just and Equitable Transition”, the event will be held on 25-26 March 2024 at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Wanderers.

Attendees can anticipate engaging discussions aimed at fostering cooperation and partnership, exchanging best practices, and advancing the discourse on just transition and resilience.

The event will facilitate dialogue and collaboration among South African cities, the PCC, and Salga.

Participants have the option to attend the event in person or via live streaming, providing an opportunity to gain insights into the urban dimension of a just transition and its alignment with the national net-zero vision.

The event promises to equip attendees with enhanced knowledge and understanding of how a just transition can positively contribute to urban resilience and sustainable development.
