Joburg Ombudsman continues to empower residents through information clinics

The Office of the Ombudsman of the City of Johannesburg successfully conducted its Citizen Information Clinic on Tuesday, 19 March 2024, to address residents’ concerns and equip them with knowledge about their rights and how to file complaints against the municipality. This initiative, held for the third time, also focused on educating residents about the Ombudsman’s role in investigating maladministration and enhancing service delivery. Held at the Rabie Ridge Community Centre in Ward 80, Region A, the event saw a turnout of over 50 attendees, including the young and elderly eager to seek assistance for their concerns.

The Ombudsman of the City of Johannesburg, Advocate Sduduzo Gumede, who led the session, offered attendees a platform to voice their concerns and seek resolutions to various issues they face while engaging with different City entities.

He stressed the importance of bridging the gap between residents and the City’s service delivery.

“The purpose of these clinics is to bridge the gap between residents and the City’s service delivery mechanisms. By bringing together stakeholders and providing valuable resources, we aim to empower residents with knowledge about their rights and provide them with avenues for seeking redress when faced with challenges,” said Gumede.

Stakeholders such as the Office of the Tax Ombudsman, the National Credit Regulator, and others were present at the clinic to share their insights and services they offer.

Their participation added value to this event by providing residents with additional resources addressing some of their concerns.

Region A acting Regional Director Hlobohang Gamede encouraged residents to use these free facilities fully and actively engaged with participants, addressing queries on topics such as electrification and housing.
