Joburg Ladies Open: City Extends Invites to 2 Golfers

Two promising young South African professional golfers were invited by the City of Johannesburg to play among other elite golfers in the 10th edition of the Joburg Ladies Open.

The prestigious four-day international golf tournament officially teed off on Thursday, 3 April 2025, at the Modderfontein Golf Course. Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance, Cllr Margaret Arnolds, launched the opening tee to officially declare the tournament open.

The tournament is co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour and Ladies European Tour (LET).This year, the invitees are rookie Kaiyuree Moodley and Yolanda Duma, a former sponsor’s invitee. Extending invites to promising golfers is a standing initiative by the City to promote development and create opportunities for players.|

Itumeleng Mankge, Deputy Director: Events Compliance in the City of Johannesburg and Tournament Promoter, says: “It’s about ensuring that we grow golf and create opportunities for female golfers. If they play well, they make it through and have opportunities to play abroad and that would carry ultimately carry the City’s brand overseas.”

“To those interested in attending, the good news is that it’s a free ticketed event and we invite all spectators to come through and watch the ladies play. It’s a field of 132 players, some who travelled far and wide to come play the Joburg Ladies Open. So, for spectators there’s a park and ride service from Stoneridge Mall. They just need to get there and be accredited from where they’ll be shuttled to the venue. This year is special because we managed to get a bigger field,” Mankge explains.

This year’s tournament also continued with the Birdies for Dignity campaign an initiative aimed at transforming the lives of young girls by donating dignity packs. For every birdie made by a professional golfer during the tournament, a dignity pack (including sanitary pads and toiletries) will be donated to a school.

Spectators are invited to donate birdies for dignity by contributing any of these items, sanitary towels, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, bath soap, face towel, and body lotion. These will be collected at the welcome desks and at Stoneridge Mall and will be added to the Birdies for Dignity campaign.
