​Joburg glows with Festival of Lights

Joburg Theatre in association with Joburg City Parks and Zoo and City Power are excited to present the annual Joburg Festival of Lights featuring an enchanting collection of illuminated life-size animal characters and classical, harmonious entertainment, food and craft night market for visitors to the Joburg Zoo.

The festival marks its third year on the Jozi festival calendar with added new features to join the magnificent animal sculptures together with illuminated trees within the Zoo, combined with exciting live entertainment offerings is certainly not to be missed.

 

The Festival of Lights opens with a stunning performance by Joburg Ballet’s Nutcracker, bringing in a sparkling sky and stage one of the most popular and beloved classical ballets in the world. Bikos Manna, a young sibling band with musical skills beyond their age will serenade guests in a soft warm glow performance under the stream of lights!

The programme adds a signature performance by singer and songwriter Xoli B and the award-winning vocalist Brenda Mtambo, spreading love though music and entertainment adding to the lights that reflects the season of Joy with sing along Christmas carols.

“Coronavirus has affected our lives in untold ways including changing the way we socialise and interact with friends and family to create memorable moments. We’ve put together a series of entertainment to celebrate and be part of an unmissable experience and that offers a unique family festive experience outdoor in a safe and nocturnal environment,” says Xoliswa Nduneni-Ngema, the Chief Executive Officer of Joburg City Theatres.

Patrons are encouraged to bring out their picnic blankets and enjoy food and beverages for all ages from the food stalls while adhering to all Covid-19 protocols.

Programme 2 – 30 November – 5 December 2021 – Joburg Ballet’s Nutcracker and Soulphiatown

Programme 3 – 7 – 12 December 2021 – Art of Dance and Xoli B

Programme 4 – 14 – 19 December 2021 – Shef and the Kitchen and Tribhangi DanceTheatre

Programme 5 –21 – 26 December 2021 – Christmas carols

Programme 6 – 28 December 2021 -2 January 2021 – Bongi Mthombeni and Brenda Mtambo

Please note the Festival of Lights is on every night from 26 November 2021 to 2 January 2021 except Monday evenings. In the case of rain disrupting the Festival of Lights, we encourage patrons to choose another evening to attend. Alternatively, pre-purchased tickets will be refunded.
