The Johannesburg Arts Alive 2024 Jazz in the Lights Music Festival lit up the Johannesburg Zoo on March 30, 2024, offering a vibrant fusion of music, culture, and family-friendly fun. The event, graced by renowned artists like Simphiwe Dana, Andile Yenana, and Ami Faku, promised a day of musical enchantment against the backdrop of the city’s beloved zoo. With food and beverage stalls dotting the venue and an array of activities tailored for children, the festival catered to families seeking a memorable outing. The director of Community Development’s Arts, Culture and Heritage, Vuyisile Mshudulu, in his remarks, emphasised the event’s child-friendly nature, highlighting the importance of providing a platform for artistic expression to flourish.
“The more important part about the event is really about giving artistic expression a platform to thrive,” Mshudulu remarked.
Indeed, the festival’s line-up dazzled attendees with a mix of emerging talents and seasoned legends.
From the soulful melodies of Maleh and the mesmerising performances of Siya Makuzeni to the dynamic duet of Nduduzo Makhathini and Mbuso Khoza as Abasemkhathini, each artist left an indelible mark on the stage.
Hosted by the versatile musician, TV, and radio presenter Rorisang Thandekiso and Jefferson Tshabalala, the event exuded an aura of excitement and cultural celebration. Thandekiso’s and Tshabalala’s infectious energy and charisma added an extra layer of charm to an already enchanting atmosphere.
“The day a fun-filled day for the family as younger guests can interact with the zoo animals and amenities, while jazz and music lovers enjoy the latest offerings from new musicians while basking in nostalgic classics from the legends,” Tshabalala enthused.
As the music filled the air and the laughter of families echoed throughout the zoo, the Johannesburg Arts Alive 2024 Jazz in the Lights Music Festival proved to be a resounding success.
