Scotland’s Calum Hill triumphed in a tense sudden-death playoff to win the 2025 Joburg Open on Sunday, edging out South Africans Jacques Kruyswijk and Shaun Norris at Houghton Golf Club.
The dramatic conclusion saw spectators crowding the 18th green, holding their breath as Hill delivered under pressure to claim his second DP World Tour title.
“It was intense not knowing how it would end,” said Hill. “You just have to keep hitting good shots, and fortunately, I came out on top.”
Hill praised the course and his experience in the city, highlighting both the tournament and his time off the fairways.
“This course was fantastic, and I had a great time in Joburg,” he said. “My coach is from here, and my wife and I enjoyed exploring the city. We visited Nelson Mandela Square and dined at a few restaurants. I’ll definitely be coming back.”
He also expressed gratitude to fans and supporters.
“The atmosphere was incredible today. Thank you to everyone here and to those watching back home. The first people I’ll call after this win are my parents,” he added.
Hill now turns his attention to upcoming events in Singapore, India, and China.
On behalf of the City, Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance, Cllr Margaret Arnolds, congratulated Hill on his victory.
“Calum Hill’s performance showcased true skill and determination,” said Arnolds. “A special thank you to the incredible spectators whose energy and passion made this tournament so special. We also deeply appreciate our sponsors, partners, and organisers for making this event a tremendous success. Johannesburg remains a proud home of world-class golf.”
