From Fire to Five Stars: Randburg Customer Service Centre Reopens

It’s been two months since the Randburg Customer Service Centre officially reopened its doors after a two-year closure and its service now runs like a well-oiled machine.

Located at the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and Bram Fischer Drive, the centre closed its doors after a fire damaged the building. Tshepano Maloka, Operations Manager of the Centre, recalls the fire vividly.

“It happened on a Sunday in July. I received a call that the centre was burning. You immediately start panicking when you hear something like that,” he recalls.

“When we got here it was bad. Our priority was how we will continue to serve our customers, which led to us setting up to assist customers in Sandton. We later came up with a contingency plan to continue service delivery to our residents and moved to a hall in Ferndale where operations continued,” Maloka adds.

Maloka says the team is happy to be back. “Here we are, back home at last.”

Olorato Mojaki, Operations Manager and Acting Assistant Director, highlights improvements made during the refurbishment. “Some of the key upgrades include fresh painting, air conditioning installation, upgrades cubicles, and a wheelchair-friendly service area.”

“The layout has been split. One side is now fully designated for the Johannesburg Metro Police Department and the other is for the Customer Service Centre. We’ve increased the number of service desks, which significantly reduced waiting times. Customer Relations Agens are ready to assist with electricity, water and other account queries.”

Mojaki adds that the reaction from residents has been positive. “Residents are happy. They say customer relations officers are professional and helpful.”

Sean Oosthuizen, Region B resident, is one such happy customer and says: “I am 100% satisfied with the service.” He says his issue was resolved within 5 minutes and confidently gives the centre five stars.

The centre is open weekdays from 07:30 to 16:00 and on Thursdays from 09:00.
