From Call Centre to Ops Manager: Mojaki Drives Service Excellence in Joburg

Olorato Mojaki’s rise within the City of Johannesburg is proof of how dedication and hard work can translate into better service delivery for residents. Starting her career as a call taker in 2002, she now serves as Operations Manager at the Randburg Customer Service Centre in Region B, where she oversees daily operations and ensures residents receive professional and efficient service.

Mojaki, who also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management, says her journey has been shaped by continuous learning. In 2022, after completing a BCom in Financial Management through the City’s Sub-Ed programme at Mancosa, she was promoted to her current role. She is also Acting Assistant Director until the end of September 2025.

Her role places her at the forefront of customer service delivery. “This position took me out of my comfort zone. I went from working behind the scenes to being in front. But I’ve learned so much. Every day brings something new,” she explained.

Mojaki believes the true reward of her work lies in seeing satisfied residents. She explains that this is why her team had to think creatively when their centre was closed for two years following a fire. For 24 months, they operated from a nearby hall and the Sandton Customer Service Centre to ensure service delivery continued without interruption.

“What I love most about my job is seeing a happy customer after being served professionally by our staff or myself. That moment of satisfaction is what keeps me going. It means you have made a difference, even in a small way.”

Her leadership focuses on professionalism, teamwork, and aligning operations with the City’s service delivery goals. She credits her colleagues for their shared commitment. “I am so grateful to work with such professional and committed teammates. We depend on each other, and we all know why we are here – to serve our communities.”
