Exciting career expo targets Randburg matriculants

For most pupils, thinking about what direction they should take after matriculating can be overwhelming. That is why Randburg Library is hosting a career expo to provide matriculants with a better understanding of the different industries, professions and institutions so that they can make an informed career choice. The career expo will be hosted at Blairgowrie Recreation Centre on Friday, 21 April 2023, between 09:00 and 13:00.

It will feature various career fields, including aviation, interior design, architecture, media, biomedical science, occupational therapy, fashion, leadership, and businesses.

The Director Library and Information Services in the City of Johannesburg, Nobuntu Mpendulo, says the career expo is open to grade 12 pupils only and urges them not to miss the opportunity.

“We invite matriculants to this career expo where various career fields will be showcased. Creating opportunities to enrich our matriculants’ future careers is an essential part of setting them up for a brighter future in the City or wherever their careers will take them,” Mpendulo adds.

Matete Lesele, a Senior Librarian at Randburg Library, says a number of local high schools have been invited. They include Ferndale High School, Northcliff High School, Oceans Private School, Sparks High School, and Vuleka SSB High School. Matriculants from other schools in the area are also welcome.

“There will be diverse institutions and career fields represented at this expo, so learners will have access to a variety career information,” says Lesele.

Learning about career options is crucial, he adds.

“Dissemination of information is important. There are so many career opportunities available, but the learners might not know about them. This career expo will shed light on that and give the learners all the necessary information they need to set their career path.”

As a parting shot, he says this is the first of many career expos to follow for Randburg Library.
