The City of Johannesburg’s James Hall Museum of Transport will host the curated outdoor vintage motor show on Saturday, 28 May 2022, from 10am to 4pm for car enthusiasts, young and old, to celebrate International Museum Month.
Visitors can expect a day filled with fun, with the air heavy with petrol fumes and a cacophony of exhaust sounds. Some of Gauteng’s trendy vintage car clubs such as Classic Italian Auto Owners and other vintage car collectors have been invited to this thrilling showcase of Joburg’s urban culture.
For history lovers, there will be guided museum tours of the James Hall Museum of Transport’s valuable transport collection, artefacts and memorabilia. A thrilling bus ride on the historic 1952 London Bus will also be on offer.
This family fun day will be accompanied by a vintage craft market, live bands and DJs and, to keep up with the theme of the day, vintage food trucks will be selling food and refreshments. Visitors will be entertained with an amazing line-up of some of Jozi’s top and upcoming live bands and DJs such as BCUC, The Charles Gene Suite, Kitchen Mess, Kamo Matsoso, DJ Mamthug, DJ SediSoul, DJ Nikita and TopNotch and DJ Tataplz.
“International Museum Week celebrates history, culture and heritage by giving museums globally the opportunity to showcase their collections. It is an important month to promote a museum-going culture in South Africa.
“It is also an opportune moment to give communities the power to write their history and to re-imagine their own heritage at a time where culture is dynamic and constantly changing,” the museum said in a media statement.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their picnic blankets, cushions, and chairs to enjoy the activities of the day in a relaxed environment.
The James Hall Museum of Transport is the largest museum of land transport in South Africa. The museum gives visitors a rare glimpse of Johannesburg’s transport history, dating back more than a century. It is the most comprehensive land transport museum in South Africa, with thematic displays and exhibits in the various exhibition halls.
