The City of Johannesburg, together with the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Gautrain, Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA), and Athletics Gauteng North (AGN), is proud to support the return of the iconic City2City Ultra Marathon on Sunday, 28 September 2025.
Following its successful return to the September calendar, the race has once again captured the imagination of athletes from across South Africa and beyond. With entries now officially closed, thousands of runners are preparing to take on the legendary route between Johannesburg and Tshwane.
The 50km ultra marathon kicks off at Marlboro Gautrain Station at 06:00, finishing at the historic Pilditch Stadium in Tshwane. Supporting events—a 10km and a 5km—will both start and finish at Pilditch from 07:00, offering opportunities for elite athletes, casual joggers, and families alike.
With a record prize purse of R1.2 million, the City2City Ultra Marathon strengthens Gauteng’s standing as South Africa’s running hub. But the event is about more than sport—it brings people together, promotes healthy lifestyles, and celebrates endurance and connection.
All participants will receive official race T-shirts, while every finisher will walk away with a medal to mark their achievement.
If you missed out on the 2025 entry window, don’t worry. Planning is already underway for City2City 2026. Whether you’re setting your sights on the full 50km challenge or prefer the excitement of the shorter races, there’s a place for you in next year’s event. Start preparing now!
