Africa Minifootball Cup of Nations celebrates beautiful game

This premier competition, Africa Minifootball Cup of Nations, brings together the continent’s most formidable national teams in a quest for the prestigious championship. With 16 nations fervently vying for triumph, this year’s African Minifootball Cup promises to be grander and more spectacular than ever before. The tournament is a continental indoor minifootball competition contested by the senior men’s national teams of African Minifootball Federation. The first edition was held in Libya in May 2018.

The draw ceremony set the stage for the thrilling competition. As teams were drawn into groups, spectators had the privilege of witnessing the unfolding drama, marking the commencement of the journey toward the coveted championship.

Cllr Lubabalo Magwentshu, the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development in the City Johannesburg, welcomed the guests and the local organising committee for choosing Joburg as the host for this prestigious championship.

“It is an honour to stand before you, representing the vibrant football community gathered here. On behalf of the City of Johannesburg, I extend a warm welcome,” he declared, radiating excitement as a football fan.

Cllr Magwentshu said it is not just a sports event but a celebration of collaboration, unity, and the power of sport to unite nations. 

He acknowledged the individuals pivotal in making the Minifootball Africa Cup of Nations a reality, emphasising the event’s significance beyond the field.

VIP guests, including Achraf Ben Salha, the President of the African Minifootball Confederation, and his committee, represented nations such as South Africa, Egypt, Ghana, Somalia, Morocco, DRC, Tunisia, Lesotho, Zambia, Libya, Nigeria, Simione, and Chad.

This tournament is poised to shake up the City of Johannesburg in April of 2024 as football players and enthusiasts grace its world-class facilities. Anticipated to boost small businesses, tourism, and the overall economy, the Africa Minifootball Cup of Nations is not just a competition, it’s a monumental celebration of the beautiful game.
