702’s Walk-the-Talk returns to explore the Cradle of Humankind

​Talk Radio 702’s much beloved Walk-the-Talk event makes a triumphant comeback, inviting Joburg residents to embark on an exhilarating adventure at the Cradle of Humankind in Maropeng on Sunday, 20 August. The much-anticipated event, now in its 22nd year, has become a cherished tradition in Gauteng, drawing thousands of participants annually.

It’s the same walk you’ve come to love and enjoy over the past two decades, but this year, Walk-The-Talk takes place at a br​and-new venue, and we look forward to a day full of fun family activity at this world heritage site,” says Mzoxolo Jojwana, 702 Station Manager.

Join walkers of all ages and fitness levels as they embrace this exciting occasion, blending physical activity with a celebration of the region’s rich cultural heritage.

“On its return as a live event, Walk-the-Talk offers an incredible opportunity for 702-Landers to explore the breath-taking beauty of the Cradle of Humankind, while also experiencing the warm hospitality and enterprising spirit of the local community,” Jojwana says.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its archaeological discoveries and insights into human evolution, the Cradle of Humankind presents a unique opportunity for participants to connect with our ancestral past.

Barba Gaoganediwe, Head of Destination Marketing and Communication at Gauteng Tourism Authority, expresses pride in hosting the event after a hiatus imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This year’s Walk-the-Talk edition will be hosted in the province’s premiere family-friendly and diverse destination, which is ready to walk you through our human story and provide access to an array of local food, beverages, and outdoor experiences,” says Gaoganediwe.

Registration is now open for Walk-the-Talk, featuring three routes catering to various abilities and ages. Choose between the wheelchair-friendly 3km walk, the leisurely 5km stroll, or the challenging 8km trek.

“You can walk at your own pace and enjoy the breath-taking scenery.”

Secure your spot and enjoy Early Bird benefits, including a personalised number, a commemorative t-shirt, and a well-deserved medal. The entry fee for the 5km and 8km walks is R350, while the 3km walk is priced at R180. No pets are allowed to preserve the natural environment.
