4 suspects (02 males and 02 females) were arrested this morning at a hijacked property in Yeoville.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates Court today where they will be charged for trespassing, malicious damage to property and contempt of court.
It is alleged that the property was hijacked by a group of Congolese nationals in 2018. The matter was then reported to the City’s Group Forensic and Investigation Service (GFIS) department for investigation. The rightful owner tried on several occasions to regain control of his property but he was denied access.
The owner the approached the High Court of South Africa where an eviction order was granted and was executed on the 20th October 2021. The eviction order was executed. However, the suspects forcefully moved back into the property.
A special operation was conducted by GFIS working together with the SAPS Property Hijacking Investigation Task Team and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD). The property was handed over to the rightful owner and it has been secured.
