CITY POWER BOARD CLEARS CEO IN FORENSIC INVESTIGATION

The City Power Board has concluded the independent review of the allegations published in the media and found no factual substantiation of wrongdoing by the entity’s executives, including Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Tshifularo Mashava.

Building plan submissions resume after system downtime

The Department of Development Planning is pleased to inform the public that the Construction Permitting Management System (CPMS) is now fully operational, and new building plan applications can once again be submitted.

The system was offline for approximately four weeks due to a technical issue linked to the City’s GIS Mapping platform, which rendered the system temporarily inaccessible. We are pleased to confirm that the issue has been resolved.

All submissions made prior to the downtime remain in the system and will be processed accordingly.

Notice of Temporary Full Closure on M1 Smit and Carr Street Interchanges for Essential Surveys

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) advises road users of a full temporary closure on the M1 Motorway (between the Smit Street and Carr Street Interchanges) for essential structural surveys scheduled for Sunday, the 19th of October 2025, between 13h00 and 16h00.

EXECUTIVE MAYOR COUNCILLOR DADA MORERO TO LEAD HIGH-IMPACT SERVICE DELIVERY OPERATION IN REGION A

The City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Councillor Dada Morero, is taking decisive action by leading a High-Impact Service Delivery Operation in Region A this Tuesday.

This operation will focus on Wards 80, 92, 110, and 111. Under the theme “Re-imagining Joburg through the Eyes of the Residents,” this initiative will tackle urgent service delivery challenges that have been exacerbated by vandalism, illegal water connections, compromised road and electricity infrastructure, sewer spillages, potholes, unlawful trading, illegal dumping, land invasions, and a range of other pressing social and economic issues impacting the communities of Ivory Park, Ebony Park, Kaalfontein, Rabie Ridge, and Commercia.

MAYOR MORERO INTENSIFIES BY-LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATION AT DE VILLIERS STREET

The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Dada Morero, will tomorrow morning lead a High-Impact by-law enforcement operation to restore law and order in the Inner City as part of the City’s ongoing mission to reclaim Johannesburg from lawlessness and urban decay.

Various Johannesburg Water systems are currently critical, with some struggling with steady water supply. As a result, the Entity’s technical teams are implementing numerous interventions across the systems to improve water supply.

The City of Johannesburg has been announced as one of the finalists for the 2025
Bloomberg Philanthropies Local Leaders Awards. These awards recognise innovative
policies, projects, and programmes led by local leaders that have effectively addressed
climate change over the past three years.

In collaboration with C40 Cities, the Awards underscore the vital and transformative role
mayors and local leaders worldwide play in accelerating progress on climate action,
especially in the lead-up to COP30.

“The selection of the City of Johannesburg as a finalist for the 2025 Local Leaders
Awards is a powerful validation of Johannesburg’s Just Transition approach,” said the
Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Dada Morero.

MAJOR GRANT SECURED FOR ALTERNATIVE WASTE TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY PROJECT

Today, the City of Johannesburg takes a bold and decisive step forward in our commitment to sustainable waste management and environmental leadership. I am proud to announce that we have successfully secured a substantial grant of EUR 27.5 million (approximately R548 million) from Invest International Public Programmes, a prominent Dutch development finance institution.

This funding is not just an achievement; it is a critical investment in our Alternative Waste Treatment Technology (AWTT) Project, set to transform the way we handle waste in our city.
