City of Joburg to elect a new mayor on Friday 01 October 2021

Kindly note that the City of Johannesburg Speaker of Council Cllr Nonceba Molwele has issued a notice to all Councillors to hold the 28th Extra-Ordinary Council meeting to elect a new mayor of the City of Johannesburg.

In accordance with section 29 of the Municipal Structures Act, 1998 (Act 117 of 1998), the Speaker of Council has advised meetings to be held as follows:

Date: Friday, 01 October 2021

Venue: Metro Centre, Constance “Conny” Bapela Chambers and various Council venues

Time: 10:00am

Media houses will have one-on-one opportunity with the mayor and photo opportunity as well.

This will be followed by the Swearing-in of the newly appointed Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC’s) as follows:

Date: Friday, 01 October 2021 (same day)

Venue: Metro Centre, Constance “Conny” Bapela Chambers and various Council venues

Time: 2pm

The Council meetings will be held NORMAL FACE TO FACE (IN PERSON) in line with Directive 6.7 of the Regulations issued by the Minister on 03 July 2020 read together with the adjusted Level 2 regulations issued by the Minister of Cogta on 12 September 2021.

Members of the public are therefore encouraged to be part of the Council meeting by viewing the proceedings of Council on the City’s Facebook page and Madam Speakers Social media pages;
