The City of Johannesburg is committed to creating opportunities for local businesses and its world-class golf tournament, Joburg Ladies Open, establishes the perfect platform. Annually the City invites local and small medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to the golf tournament to showcase their work to build brand exposure.

This year, the City invited Drysdales, also known as The Dynamite Distilling Co, in Modderfontein to display and sell its products at the ninth edition of the Joburg Ladies Open at the Modderfontein Golf Course, in the east of Johannesburg from 18 to 21 April 2024.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to have been part of the Joburg Ladies Open. Being a Modderfontein distillery, we’re familiar with the tournament and it is awesome we could finally be part of it,” says Travis Cameron.

Dynamite Distilling is a family business founded in 2017 by Travis’s father, Ian, and head distiller, Jedd, who Travis’s brother. Jedd started distilling when he was 18 years old, making him the youngest distiller in the country at that point. Today, the distillery is entirely family run.

The company pride itself on its appreciation for local flavours and being proudly South African. “We’re positioning ourselves to be a proud African brand. We’re proud to be part of South African culture and therefore promote South African spirit and flavours. The country has a lot to offer,” says Travis.

Its product range has grown over the years, from exclusively gins to now having vodka, brandy, liqueurs, Agave spirit and whisky. 

Its gins include Chilli Gin, Citrus Gin, Floral Gin, Jozi Dry Gin, Summer Gin and their Premium Sloe Gin. The liqueur range includes flavours such as Coffee, Honey Melon, Malt and Pistachio.

It’s perfectly infused flavours have scored them various awards from the Michael Angelo international wine and spirits awards.

Travis says they focus on quality spirit and source local ingredients. “We’re a craft distillery and do everything with a lot of care and hand source the craft materials to include in the flavours.”

Dynamite Distilling is in the process of building a tequila factory to be one the first in the country to make tequila from plants, notes Travis. 

Dynamite Distilling offers spirit tastings at its premises on 31 High Street, Founders Hill, Modderfontein.
