The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Lubabalo Magwentshu, recently joined aid organisation Gift of the Givers Foundation to distribute nutritional packs hundreds of pupils. The first leg started at Zakariyya Park Combined School in the south of Johannesburg during which squeals of delight could be heard from the overjoyed pupils as they received the packs. The next stop was at New Generation Primary School and Mellowmead High School where they were joined by Ward Councillor Cllr Puseletso Ndzimande.

The day concluded at Altmont Technical High School, where 400 stationery packs brought smiles to teachers. 

The Ward Councillor for Ward 10, Cllr Nokuthula Nofemela, joined the handing over of the stationery packs Altmont Technical High School.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Cllr Nofemela said: “For a school that has given us a tough time with issues of discipline, it is a relief that the class of 2023 performed better compared to 2022.

“Choosing Altmont Technical High was based on having pupils in need of stationery, encouraging them to invest in their future. We really care for our children and wish them nothing but the best. May this year be a year of progress and success,” said Cllr Nofemela.

MMC Magwentshu acknowledged the impactful partnership with the Gift of the Givers, emphasising the significant difference it is making in communities inside South Africa and globally with its disaster relief efforts.

“It is always a relief to see that organisations like Gift of the Givers see the need to collaborate with local government and make a positive impact on the lives of the learners. We are living in extraordinary times where interventions are needed to move towards giving equal opportunities and a footing for those less able so they too can have a chance to put their best foot forward,” said Cllr Magwentshu.
