Diepsloot’s holiday programme turns into hub of excitement and learning

Sport and Recreation officials in the City of Johannesburg joined forces with the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) and Joburg City Parks and Zoo to bring a range of activities to children in Diepsloot, Region A. The morning session was at Neighbourhood Community Centre in Diepsloot Extension 1 Hall with SANCA. The programme focused on personal development and responsible conduct.

Information shared provided insights on how to avoid drugs.

The interactive discussions aimed to instil a sense of responsibility and awareness among the young participants.

Laughter echoed through the hall as they engaged in energising pursuits.

The afternoon session at Sarafina Park lived up to its promise of engaging activities, with children thoroughly enjoying themselves in a hot summer day.

The river and sand activity focused on imparting crucial lessons about coordination and listening to instructions.

Adding an intellectual twist to the day, the Tower of Hanoi activity took centre stage.

This not only developed logical thinking but also enhanced eye and hand coordination, promoting colour and shape recognition.

The combination of these activities displayed a well-rounded approach, blending recreation and education seamlessly.

Yolatha Siwundla, one of the enthusiastic participants, expressed a sentiment shared by many. “I so wish we could do these activities throughout the school holidays.”

“The collaboration with the Joburg City Parks and Zoo added an extra layer of community involvement, showcasing the importance of partnerships in creating impactful programmes,” said Recreation Officer Palesa Mojapelo.
