Scores of residents graduate from the City’s Library computer classes

A total of 20 youth and adults recently graduated, signalling the end of a three-week training on different computer skills at Cosmo Library. Organised by Cosmo City Librarian Sbusiso Thusi and supported by the e-Learning Officer, the community members were introduced to basic computer skills and later the Microsoft online courses that are accessible on the City of Joburg’s libraries website www.cojelearning.org.za Besides the in-person training in the library, the courses they completed from the website included Excel, MsWord, CV Writing and PowerPoint. The youth who participated intend to do more courses and some have expressed a desire to start businesses or look for jobs.

The library has introduced two computers for residents to practice computer skills and do more online courses or search the internet using the City’s WI-FI inside the library.

Most of the participants who attended the graduation had done more than five courses online,

“As part of digital literacy in City Libraries to ensure that all community members have some form of digital skill other libraries have also introduced computer classes, including Alexander, Orange Farm and Westbury,” said Jeff Nyoka, e-Learning Manager at the City of Johannesburg.
