Nothing brings people together than a market filled with food, fun and entertainment. That’s exactly what the Hillfox Market in Roodepoort promises visitors. The Weltevreden Park centre is well-known for its market and the ambience it creates for shoppers. The market closed down due to the shutdown of B&B markets but is officially back and launched its successful reopening on 1 April 2023. 

Lindo Buthelezi, the market co-ordinator, says the Hillfox Market is the sister market of the Soweto Farmers Market which was also established to create opportunities for vendors to promote their wares and services to the community. 

“I joined the Hillfox Market shortly after launching the Soweto Farmers Market. It is not to be missed. The support from visitors has been amazing and the feedback we receive speaks to the success and impact the market has within the respective community,” she says. 

She says that within a city as big as Johannesburg, it is also important for centres and spaces that allow growth opportunities for the members residing within the reaching areas. 

“The market is a place for individuals and families to gather and enjoy a variety of food and drink from different vendors. It is also a space for development, which in this day and age needs to be supported,” she adds. 

“The Hillfox Market is Roodepoort’s go-to destination for weekend wonders, family friendly entertainment, scrumptious foods and stunning crafts,” says Buthelezi 

She says that interested vendors are welcome to apply on the Hillfox Market website. 

“There is space for absolutely everyone and we encourage people to visit us.”

The Hillfox Market operates from 10am to 6pm every first or last Saturday of the month. The next available market days are on 6 and 27 May, 03 June and 01 July.
