Celebrate Easter with harmonious performances at the Joburg Theatre

Whether you are a theatregoer or opera lover, indulging in a one-night performance of Verdi Requiem is a brilliant way to spend an Easter evening. Verdi Requiem will take the audience of all ages on breathtaking journey at the Joburg Theatre on Saturday, 08 April 2023, from 19:30. Verdi Requiem was written in memory of the Italian poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni, whom Verdi greatly respected, and it was first performed on May 22, 1874, the first anniversary of Manzoni’s death.

Vedri Requiem made its mark in theatre stages and has now been performed in major theatres, concert halls and opera houses throughout the world. Perceived to be one of the most dramatic, and most operatic show, Verdi Requiem features the incredible soprano, Pumeza Matshikiza, and mezzo-soprano Nonhlanhla Yende.

Bongani Maseko, Joburg Theatre’s Communication and Marketing Manager, says bringing the show to Joburg Theatre is a way to celebrate Easter and the art of music in a popular language understood by everyone in the world.

“Verdi’s Requiem will be the only musical show at Joburg Theatre, and what a way to celebrate Easter,” says Maseko.

“The audience will be treated to an awesome performance and stunning voices.”

The programme will feature the famous sacred mass, with songs like Sanctus, Lacrymosa, and the ever-popular Dies irae, performed along with Gauteng Choristers conducted by Sidwell Mhlongo.

“We are particularly looking forward to welcoming our loyal audiences to the theatre to enjoy these internationally recognised voices of Mzansi,” says Maseko.

Tickets range from R200 to R500. Visit https://www.joburgtheatre.com/ to purchase tickets and for more information on the show.
