Joburg Ladies Open Pro-Am sets the perfect pace

A total of 40 professional golfers and 60 amateurs have been invited to participate in this year’s Joburg Ladies Open Pro-Am, which is a four-ball alliance with two to count. The Pro-Am teed-off on Tuesday, 28 February at the Modderfontein Golf Club, east of Johannesburg. It is a prelude to the Joburg Open Ladies International Golf Tournament, which tees-off between Wednesday, 1 March and Saturday, 4 March 2023.

The day of the Pro-Am began with professional and amateur players eager to hit the fairways of the famed par-72 golf course with 18 holes. Modderfontein Golf Club, on the other hand, presents its own obstacles; the layout is parkland, with firm greens, tree-lined fairways, and a sizable number of ponds.

Some of the elite golfers playing in the Pro-Am include South African professional golfer Lee-Anne Pace who won the Joburg Ladies Open in 2016 and secured herself a runner up position in 2021, Nicole Garcia, Casandra Alexander, and Ivanna Samu.

Amateurs on the field of play have been afforded a once in a lifetime opportunity to play next to two professional golfers. At the tee box, amateurs start with a professional and at the ninth hole a new professional join their team to the end.

This year’s batch of amateurs are made of the promising and brilliant amateurs destined to challenge Modderfontein greens and make it to the top.

Representing World of Golf as amateurs, Kefilwe Motsatsi and Siziwe Dube expressed excitement and determination to be part of the Pro-Am.

The two were thrilled while practicing in the morning before their game teed-off and were eager to experience one of the most exciting golfing events alongside professional golfers from across the world.

“It’s my first time playing with professional golfers, it is a privilege to be part of this exciting opportunity,” said Motsatsi.

Dube had a smile on her face. “I am excited to be part of this brilliant tournament. It is a beautiful day today and I am looking forward to learning from other talented professional golfers,” said Dube.
