New swimming pool to accelerate aquatic excellence at Jabulani Safe-Hub

A new era of aquatic excellence beckons for the vibrant community of Jabulani after the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) completed a new and well-designed swimming pool. The JDA is the City of Johannesburg’s infrastructure development agency and implemented the swimming pool on behalf of the City of Johannesburg’s Department of Community Development, Sports and Recreation in Soweto, Region D. The Olympic-sized pool will form part of the Jabulani Safa Safe-Hub and stands as a testament to the commitment and vision of the city to provide world-class recreational facilities for its residents.

The state-of-the-art Jabulani Safe-Hub was launched on 9 September 2021.
It boasts a multitude of features and amenities for physically and emotionally safe spaces where young people access services and opportunities.

This support occurs through sports, arts and culture-based programmes that focus on personal development, health, safety, education, accredited training, employability and local economic development.
The Jabulani Safe-Hub also has a full-size soccer artificial pitch, outdoor courts, a gym facility, a play area, a multipurpose hall with basketball courts and changing rooms.

Attendance data at the Jabulani Safe Hub revealed that the facility recently received an impressive 10 000 visitors over a 30-day period. With the swimming pool now at practical completion, this number looks set to increase as the facility continues to contribute to the well-being of residents.

“The completion of the Jabulani Safe-Hub Olympic-sized swimming pool is another example how the JDA’s work responds to the GDS 2040 ideals of resilience, liveability, and sustainability,” said JDA CEO Mokgema Mongane.

“This facility stands as a symbol of progress, collaboration, and the city’s commitment to providing exceptional recreational opportunities for all,” he noted.
