??In the heart of ekasi, Soweto, a celebration of local lifestyle with food, fun and family will ignite through the third instalment of the Soweto Farmers Market. The market is on 26 November 2023 at the iconic Soweto Equestrian Centre in Rockville, which sets the scene for a unique and organic experience. Event organiser Dumile Mabuya says the market is a vibrant and unique gathering with its farm-like, rustic atmosphere to distinguishing it from typical urban markets. Visitors will explore horse riding and enjoy an exhilarating horse jumping show, making the market stand out from the rest.
Mabuya says there will be something for everyone at the market. “Market goers can expect local and lekker food stalls, cocktails and soft drinks, live music from some of the town’s best artists and just a vibe of togetherness.”
The Soweto Farmers Market has also partnered with the Soweto Kids Festival, which promises to bring a fun-filled festive day for the children.
There will be horse riding, pony rides, face painting, jumping castles, trampolines and much more for the children to burn off some of their energy.
Another partnership they are proud to announce is with the Soweto Film Festival, which celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Mabuya says the market was founded in 2021 in response to the challenging times brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Our market has been a ray of hope and support for local businesses that were severely affected during the lockdown. Local producers are the driving force behind innovation and creativity, often struggling to gain recognition and support,” he says.
Mabuya adds that they aim to provide a platform for traders and facilitate access to customers who appreciate quality, authentic and diverse local products.
“We are deeply committed to engaging with and giving back to our community.”
