Joburg residents urged to exercise restraint during Bok trophy tour​

In celebration of the Springbok’s historic victory in the 2023 Rugby World Cup, a parade has been organised to honour the champions in the streets of Johannesburg. The will pass through various areas in City before reaching its destination at FNB Stadium on Thursday, 02 November 2023. The tour is set to kick off at the intersection of 1 Jan Smuts Avenue in Braamfontein at 2pm, proceeding to the Metro Centre and crossing the renowned Nelson Mandela Bridge. Afterwards, the bus will follow a route to Simmonds Street, leading to FNB Bank City, where the CEO of FNB will address the audience from the Springbok Bus.

The journey will carry on as the bus progresses along Nasrec Road, offering views of prominent landmarks like Riverlea and the Joburg Expo Centre. 

As the route continues left towards Ben Naude Street, the bus will make a left onto Immink Road, followed by a right onto Chris Hani Street, passing Maponya Mall.

Continuing the journey, the bus will make a right onto Klipspruit Valley Road, then a left onto Khumalo Main Street, followed by a left onto Vilakazi Street. 

The procession will descend to Pela Street, taking a left at Klipfontein and a right onto the Soweto Highway.

The Springbok Bus will reach the Shaft 17 Offramp, where a right turn onto Nasrec Road will lead to SAFA House Gate where there will be a walk around the field and meeting with the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Cllr Kabelo Gwamanda.

The Member of Mayoral Committee for Community Development, Cllr Lubabalo Magwentshu, urged the public to remain exercise caution during the Bok trophy parade. 

He said while we celebrate the Boks’ achievement, it is crucial to be vigilant and follow the instructions of law enforcement to ensure a joyful and secure celebration.

“This tour is not just a celebration of the Bokke’s magnificent achievement, it is a celebration of unity and pride that our diverse community shares. The Springbok team has brought our City and nation together, and we are thrilled to host this tour to celebrate their remarkable milestone. We are proud to welcome the Springboks and share in their joy,” said Cllr Magwentshu.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes to avoid the parade route and the associated road closures.
