Mayor Morero rallies the troops to accelerate service delivery

Executive Mayor Cllr Sello Dada Morero addressed employees of the City of Johannesburg at the Metro Centre on Thursday, 13 October 2022. He told City officials that he was once one of them during his stint in Finance Department. He told employees that he sees them, hears them and will do everything he can to support and encourage a work space that is effective efficient and looks after its’ workforce.

“The workers are a vital and most important part of the organisational body. You are the ones that services the City, as such you must commit your lives to this organisation but in turn the City must also look after your well-being,” said Mayor Morero.

He urged workers to make Joburg a world-class African City and improve their work ethic.

“We all have challenges and needs. This is a call from us as leadership to work together. We want you as employees to support us fully because we are going to support you fully. The City of Johannesburg should not just be a job, it should be the employer of choice and you should be happy and proud to be employed by the organisation,” he added.

In addition, Mayor Morero said he would embark on engagements with each department in the next two weeks. He also mentioned that employees will be heard and seen and not victimised for raising their concerns.

“Change and solutions to employee concerns will not be rectified overnight. However, we can promise to divide it into long, medium and short term achievable goals,” he said.

“It is a beautiful day for the city, especially because our Executive Mayor has set aside some time before he gets busy to see the most important people in the City of Johannesburg, the workforce who drives service delivery for the good of the residents who live within the City,” said Cllr Loyiso Masuku, the Member of Mayoral Committee for Group Corporate and Shared Services.

City employees welcomed the address by the Mayor and expressed excitement about what the future holds for them under the new political leadership.
