Motoring enthusiasts breathe in fuel fumes at James Hall Museum of Transport

Petrol-heads, car enthusiasts and their supporting crews descended on the James Hall Museum of Transport for the recent Creative Native Vintage Motor Show & Picnic. This event brought together motoring maniacs around Johannesburg to exhibit and showcase their classic and vintage cars for Joburg’s local communities. Those who have them flaunted their collections and swopped notes with other collectors and the public.

Some of the Joburg’s emerging and top artists performed live amid the smell of petrol and diesel fumes.

The child-friendly and family oriented event was packed with families enjoying a glimpse into Johannesburg’s transport history.

Gaisang Sathekge, the Chief Curator at the museum, said: “There was nothing unmatched as seeing the excited children and grateful parents as they hop into the 1952 Vintage London Bus ride to experience City of Joburg.

“It also provided additional opportunities for artists after the impact of Covid-19. The festival contributed towards supporting small businesses by providing market slots for vendors to sell their products.

“This event was fun and another step closer to serving local communities, providing access to the City’s Arts, Culture and Heritage facilities.

It has promoted the museum-going culture within the City of Joburg and positioning the City as a place of tourist attraction,” said Sathekge.
