Mayor Morero catalysis urban renewal through #HighImpactServiceDelivery

The City has embarked on an intensive #HighImpactServiceDelivery blitz to address urban challenges head-on.

This weekly, multi-entity operation deploys key municipal departments and entities [including City Power, Johannesburg Water, Pikitup, the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), and Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo] to proactively tackle service delivery backlogs in communities across the metro.

Operating under the guiding principle of “Re-imagining Joburg through the eyes of residents,” these interventions are a direct response to community concerns. The blitz focuses on issues such as widespread vandalism, illicit dumping, infrastructure decay, and the restoration of public amenities.

A significant challenge we are confronting is the pervasive theft and vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly the streetlighting network. In a proactive measure, the City is systematically replacing conventional streetlights with more resilient solar-powered alternatives to ensure the integrity of our illumination network.

We implore residents to join us as active custodians of these vital improvements by safeguarding infrastructure and reporting any suspicious or criminal activity. #HighImpactServiceDelivery

Operational scope and delivered services

The #HighImpactServiceDelivery campaign encompasses a diverse array of critical interventions:

  • Extensive repairs to road surfaces and the rectification of potholes.
  • Enhancement of crucial stormwater infrastructure to mitigate flooding and improve urban resilience.
  • Systematic clean-up operations targeting illegal dumping sites.
  • Restoration and beautification of communal areas.
  • Essential repairs and upgrades to public facilities.
  • Regulation of billboards and decisive action against abandoned buildings.
  • Proactive engagement on illegal utility connections and the strategic management of informal trading activities.

This initiative unequivocally signals the City’s commitment to collaborative governance, working in close concert with communities to deliver tangible results precisely where they are most acutely required.
The City is poised to replicate these targeted interventions across other regions to promote safer, cleaner, and more dignified living and working environments for all residents.
