Joburg City Theatres’ annual Festival of Lights opens on 27 November 2025, bringing the spirit of Christmas even closer to visitors. Hosted at the Joburg Zoo, the festival remains one of the city’s most enchanting family outings.
Lindiwe Lekasapa, City Theatres’ Programming General Manager, says this year’s edition comes with exciting new additions.
“Along with our larger-than-life illuminated structures, the kiddies’ corner and live performances on the bandstand, we’re excited to introduce a nativity-scene play at the Farmhouse. It’s a beautiful addition that brings the true spirit of Christmas closer to our visitors and creates an atmosphere that feels both magical and meaningful,” says Lekasapa.
Preparations have been underway for months to curate a diverse entertainment line-up. “From the energetic Jozi Youth Dance and the vibrant Art of Dance performers to the captivating ensembles of Madagascar Jr, Tribanghi Dance Company and the Spanish Dance Society’s Compañía Sophia, each group adds a unique artistic flavour to the event.”
Lekasapa adds: “We’re especially thrilled to feature musical experiences led by Soulful Xplosion with Lindelani Mkhize, DJ Prince, Bongi Archi, Droomsindroom, The Soil and BlaqDiamond. Together with karaoke and drumming sessions, and the Nativity Story by Stageworx at the Farmhouse, the festival becomes a rich blend of culture, creativity and holiday magic. Working with such talented artists has truly elevated the experience.”
Visitors are encouraged to gather friends and family, pack a picnic basket and enjoy a magical evening under the Zoo sky.
