In a bid to get more officials vaccinated and flatten the Covid-19 curve, the City of Johannesburg’s Department of Public Safety launched a pop-up vaccination drive targeted at internal staff members who are not vaccinated yet.
The department aimed to reach over 200 vaccinations by the end of day one last week Thursday, 21 October 2021.

Robert Mulaudzi, the spokesperson of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS), said that the campaign was designed to counter vaccine hesitancy.
Mulaudzi, who vaccinated almost six months ago, said after getting his vaccination, he didn’t experience any health-threatening symptoms.
“We are encouraging people to come in their numbers and vaccinate so that we are safe, and we can render our service to our community,” Mulaudzi said.
The Acting Chief of Emergency Service, Rapulane Monageng, encouraged people to take 20 minutes of their time to get vaccinated. “Come and vaccinate. We will educate them on how to take precautions for Covid-19.”
Public Safety departments: JMPD, EMS, Disaster Management and Licensing in partnership with Old Mutual drove this campaign to ensure that they reach their objectives for staff and residents.
The City of Johannesburg in partnership with the Old Mutual will roll out more pop-up drive vaccination drives until 26 November 2021 at Metrobus Milpark Depot. City employees and residents are advised to bring their IDs to the vaccination site.
