Quartet’s brave act foils cable theft on City property

Four alert security guards are vying for the JMPD’s certificate of valour after foiling a cable theft attempt by three alleged robbers in Rabie Ridge.

Security officers Ndiambi Ramabuni, Ruben Mashaba, Thabo Sathekge and Mariam Bosoma are being hailed for their heroic act to save City property from being stolen and vandalised in Midrand recently.

Salthiel Mabeba, who is Region A-2 Security Manager, says while on hourly patrols at the Rabie Ridge sports facility shortly after midnight recently, the four guards noticed illegal activity and gave chase.

“The guards managed to chase off four males, who were found digging a trench to allegedly steal a copper cable. The suspects made off without any valuable items, leaving behind a firearm, a pick and a shovel on the scene, which have been handed over to the local police for further investigation,” says Sally.

This is the second failed robbery at a City facility in Midrand in just under a year. Last year, three security officers risked life and limb to halt a break-in at the JRA’s Region A offices. Sally commends his team for foiling the attempted robbery, “especially since they are understaffed and have limited resources to perform their duties. This is truly courageous and encouraging.”

Sally has since written to the JMPD’s Chief of Police and the City’s Director of Security Services with a recommendation that Ndiambi, Ruben, Thabo and Mariam be awarded certificates of appreciation for their sterling work.

He encourages Joburgers to report all suspected illegal activities in Region A directly to him on 083 702 7505 or 083 374 0459. Alternatively email sallym@joburg.org.za.
