City of Joburg MRM, a promising future

Speaker of Council in the City of Johannesburg Cllr Nonceba Molwele  encouraged people to recommit to the efforts of building communities that are grounded on positive values.
She said this during discussions about Moral Regeneration on her weekly show Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) last night, 12 May 2021.
The movement is a civil society-driven initiative that aims at working against the escalating moral decay or anti-social behaviour that manifest in many areas of South African life.
It is on this platform where society rededicate itself to building a caring society in pursuit of creating lasting peace and prosperity in the country.
The MRM does not replace or duplicate any existing initiatives and processes aimed at combating moral regeneration.
“The MRM in Johannesburg was very active during the term of former and late Speaker of Council, Mme Connie Bapela, and she worked very hard and closely with the Moral Regeneration Movement to keep it alive and impactful. When I came into office, it was very important for me to resuscitate the Moral Regeneration Movement in Johannesburg, given the social ills that we experience in the City. It is for this reason that I appointed an Interim Structure MRM that will be in office until October 2021,” said Cllr Molwele.
She started by introducing MRM committee members in attendance namely Zandi Ndamase, Chairperson of the Committee Kglalalelo Mmeti, an SA ambassador of Moral Regeneration and Neo Chaka from the Moral Regeneration Movement at National Level.
Cllr Molwele also to acknowledge City’s Junior Speaker, Shumikazi Radebe, and Junior Mayor Katlego Matsaba, who are both from the current Johannesburg Student Council.
Father, Smangaliso Mkhatshwa, a special guest and a founder of the MRM, said he was very impressed about the quality of Joburg MRM committee. He expressed a desire to use the model of City of Joburg as an example for the country as a whole.
Dean Dhlwathi, a committee member, said: “It is imperative that as individuals and as collective, we begin to be part of the solution in the journey of transforming moral decay/fiber of society.  When you participate and become part of the MRM you become part of the solution and transformation.”
He encouraged people to stand up and be part of the movement of transforming the status quo, committing themselves since MRM has good initiatives aiming at instilling good and sound moral values/norms in the society such as respect, integrity to name a few.
Cllr Nonhlanhla Sifumba, a member of the Ethical Leadership portfolio in CoJ MRM committee, said the movement hopes to partner with youth organisations to exchange information and pass through the importance of ethical leadership and integrity.
The MRM aims to communicate to communities of Joburg, hold round table discussion with business and schools on different topics under ethical leadership through its initiative and programmes.
Last night’s discussion was live on City of Joburg’s Facebook page, Speaker’s social media page, “Nonceba Molwele” on Facebook and @Speaker_CoJ on Twitter.
Speaker also welcomed a new partner, Pulse FM, the new City of Joburg virtual radio station, Jozi FM, Eldos FM, Alex FM and Chai FM, as well as Dr Fundile Nyati, a long-term partner in civic education.
